about

HAPPY IN A MELANCHOLY WAY is a first album for singer/songwriter, Emily Riddle (born Dec 3, 1991).

The project began in May of 2008 when Emily and her co-producers (her mom and two friends) took off to Longview, Texas for the summer at the invitation of an area church (New Heights) that generously offered use of equipment, church pews to sleep on, and general run of the facilities at the most extreme hours.

The remaining tracks were cut the summer of 2009 in Emily's family home (bathroom, living room, office) with every guest room occupied by musicians who stayed up all hours tracking while her father attempted sleep.

The album is aptly titled and reflects the personality and philosophy of this artist both in the lyrical content and song arrangements.

The songs are comprised of all live instruments with the exception of the organ/piano on tracks 2,5,7,13 and 14

SPECIAL THANKS (from Emily):

DARRIN RIDDLE for your patience with all the noise in the house at all the crazy hours, for letting mom drag so many musicians in and out, for working so hard every day so that I can become all that God wants me to be. I love you so much, Daddy.

JENNIE LEE RIDDLE for all the years of training, encouragement, direction, and critique...for loving me and believing in me, for all the instruments lying all over the house, for managing this project and bringing all the fragmented pieces and processes into completion, for letting me do 'Blue Eyes', all the resources, sleepless nights and long hours it took to get to this point. I would be nowhere without you, Mom, I love you.

RANDY COCHRAN for your genius ideas, mad skills, long hours, randomness, the 1 1/2 year labor of love and finished product that is more than I could have ever wanted. You are one of the most creative people on the planet and your ideas brought the tracks and mixes to a whole new level. Thank you for working so hard.

Jordan: for your amazing talent, the array of instruments that bring songs to life when you get them under your fingers, your dedication and professionalism, and the confidence you give to all who are privileged to work with you. You could have spent all this time on your own music, and you spent it on me instead. Thanks so much.

NEW HEIGHTS CHURCH (formerly Rose Heights Church) in Longview Texas: Your mind-blowing generosity and investment will never be forgotten. The talent and heart of the people at NHC has set a permanent example for me and for so many others. Thank you so much for your outpouring of love and the best summer ever: Tim Wiseman, Phil Briggs, Mark Rasberry, Chris Cook, Aaron Klein, and Mallory and Nikki Reynolds; you guys are awesome and I love all of what each of you contributed.

LUCAS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY and COMMUNITY LIFE CHURCH for being such a safe and encouraging place for me to learn and grow as an artist and as a leader. Your love and support has changed me.

TY YOUNG: I too now wish to be one with the Cello.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS you have given me the courage to actually release my music. Thank you for believing in me.
